Congratulations to “4 Foot Soldiers“, the Venturer team from Yanco Agricultural High School who achieved 2nd place in the 2014 Dragon Skin “Lost Cities” challenge held over Easter.
“4 Foot Soldiers” finished on 1437 points, just one point ahead of the third placed “Smooth Cactus” team from Moocooboolah District.
Congratulations also to “The Slayers” from 1st Caringbah on their win in the event, a fantastic effort and well deserved win.
Teams from the Yanco Agricultural High School Venturer Unit have had success in many of the previous Dragon Skin events and it is exciting that James Wade, Andrew Barr, Bailey Cox and Mitchell Ryan of the “4 Foot Soldiers” team were able to continue the success on behalf of their Unit this year.
Dragon Skin is an annual NSW Branch Venturer Scout activity, first conducted in 1984. It is an initiative competition held over four days each Easter long weekend in a forest a few hours from the Sydney metropolitan area.
The 31st Annual Dragon Skin was held at Newnes State Forest north of Lithgow with 859 Venturers and Guides in 167 teams from all over NSW, the ACT, Queensland and Victoria competing in the event.
Teams of Venturer Scouts and Guides participate in a variety of activities that allow them to test their initiative, leadership, teamwork and technical skills against members of other Units.
Venturers who participate must hold the Venturer Skills Award and be registered members of the Association. Guides (15 – 18) should have the equivalent. In addition, at least one member of each team must hold a current first aid qualification.
The event is organised by the Dragon Skin Committee, responsible to the NSW Branch Venturer Scout Council.

Representatives from Riverina achieved further success at Dragon Skin this year with the Riverina Rover Team achieving 2nd place in the Best Activity Base competition for the base they designed and managed on VOC 4. The Dragon Skin event is only achievable because of the extraordinary efforts of a huge and dedicated support team including Rovers, Leaders and other supporters. Thank you to all who help make it happen!
